Workshop Descriptions & Details
Blues Licks and Tricks - Jay Nunes
Playing leads up and down the neck, using Jay's Tablatures and the 12-bar blues.
Attendees to this workshop should have a minimum Advanced Beginner to Intermediate skill set. Attendee skill sets include playing the Bb, some Bar Chords and reading basic Tablature.
If you are aspiring to advance you’re skills to the next level, this is the Workshop for you. By the end of this workshop players will have an understanding of the 12 Bar Blues, leads and applying them to any Key.
Low G ukuleles recommended but not required. (seating limited to 15 attendees per session- please do not sign up unless you are comfortable with attendee skill sets)
Ukulele Essentials - Greg Gent
Ok, so you’ve learned a few chords... maybe more. And you dream DDUUDU. You’re more than a beginner... you’re a player!! Greg Gent’s Ukulele Essentials workshop covers adding essential ukulele skills to your ukulele toolkit. Think picking is beyond you? Think again. Ever hear someone add that cool percussive sound to their strum? Greg will explain it. You’ll do it! Having trouble with tempo? Let’s talk about all these things and more. Ukulele Essentials teaches techniques you can practice and provides useful information to help you move beyond beginner.
Right Hand Essentials - Greg Gent
In the ‘Ukulele Essentials’ class, we covered two basic right hand techniques: chucking and Travis picking. In, ‘Right Hand Essentials’, we’ll further our use of right hand techniques to add exciting and interesting additions to your ukulele sound. We’ll discuss adding chucking to more complex strums, introduce more complex picking patterns, and more. We’ll then practice these skills, then put them to work a a few songs. You will leave with skills to practice, perfect, and improve your overall range of playing.
Introduction to Improvisation- Chrissy Hogarth
Ever wanted to learn how to improvise but weren't sure how to do it? This workshop will take everyone from the rawest beginner to the most seasoned strummer through the crucial steps required to construct melodic phrases. The workshop focuses on the conceptual and intuitive sides of the brain and teaches participants how to translate colors and emotions into music. Chrissy then takes you a little further down the rabbit hole of improvisation with a stronger emphasis on the techniques required to bring your musical phrases to life. A basic understanding of theory is recommended but the concepts are so simple that anyone could follow along.
Plays Well With Other - Bob Tigert
Bob outlines a systematic and practical way to coordinate Preparation, Practice and Performance, for group players, band leaders or even solo musicians. We discuss, and demonstrate, a logical series of ideas that are integral to working with others in a musical context. " Yes, it’s a bit of a “Skull Session” – but I guarantee that almost anyone will come away with a new idea (or 6) and a better understanding of how to create a clearer path to playing better."
Learn this song to learn that lesson - Bob Tigert
Bob will show how different songs or strum-along sessions can almost always teach important techniques, including not only fretboard prowess but also arranging and “owning” a song for performances. I will pick out a couple of songs (probably 3) to show how even the simplest songs can become important to your playing in surprising ways.
Jazz up your playing for the Great American Songbook-Lisa Webb
Oh those great songs of the 20’s, 30’s & 40’s! What made them so fabulous and enduring? What made them so jazzy? Have fun with Lisa as she takes you cool cats through some chord extensions, intros & outros and strumming techniques to put a little Jazz in your style!
Vocal Techniques and your Uke - Lisa Webb
Want to have a blast singing and sounding your best? Lisa has studied and taught voice for years and has a lot of good stuff to share. Join her as she takes your through some easy exercises and fun techniques to improve your vocals, and customize your Uke playing to show off your best voice!
