“Produced with the support of the National Endowment for the Arts, Creative Pinellas and the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners.”

This event is over and what a great day it was!  We raised over $1000 for TBUS and Dunedin Cares and the music in town was fantastic.  Many thanks to our sponsors and talent. Stay tuned for details for next years event which is tentatively  scheduled for March 24th 2024

The Tampa Bay Ukulele Society (TBUS), a non profit 501(c)3 Charitable Organization,  will be holding its 6th Annual Ukulele Day Festival on Sunday March 26th, 2023 in Downtown Dunedin. Each of our previous events have drawn hundreds of attendees  and received widespread media attention. There will be workshops, music by various local ukulele talent at merchant locations during the day, a strum and stroll through town, playalong sessions and ukulele bands at Pioneer Park.

Net proceeds from this event help fund our education, entertainment and community service projects . We are sharing net proceeds 50/50 with the Dunedin Cares Food Bank.

This year the Flea Bitten Dawgs will be doing three workshops during the day and featured talent at the concert in park. The group consists of David Henry Spangler on ukulele and lead vocal, Thom Pallozola on lead ukulele and vocal, and Lee Kram on percussion and vocals. Their song list crosses 10 decades of music. They mix originals in with the covers they love. One of Thom’s songs was recorded by Supe Granda of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, two of David’s song were recorded by the group for the Narrow Boat Sessions, Great Britain’s premier folk music organization. PBS produced a segment of Thom’s involvement with the ukulele which featured The Flea Bitten Dawgs.

Improve your skills with these 3 workshops held at
Scottish American Center 917 Louden Ave (near Honu)

Plays well with others@ 10amThis workshop is created to help a group of players, playing like instruments, to sound exciting to an audience. The challenge is to become a group with individuals playing separate parts to a song. We’ll break into different groups with each group learning their section of the arrangement and then put it together to create the song.

Finding Your Inner Chord@ 11:30am This workshop is designed you help you think of chords as sounds instead of a form on the neck. Using the tools you’ll learn, will make your songs interesting and get away from the habit of just strumming through a song. If you are writing songs, this workshop will help you find a better voice for the progressions you use. While this is not a class about theory, we will touch on the basics of chord construction.

Percussion workshop@1pm In this workshop we will explore how  different beats help to give a song its character. By learning how different beats move the music, it will help your performances engage better with the audience. We’ll start with basic rhythms and work into more complex. Our goal is to move away from strumming 4 beat to a measure and dig into the structure of the song. While this is a percussion workshop, it is designed for using this knowledge with any instrument you play. We recommend you bring a shaker, or small hand drum, but tapping on your ukulele will work. This workshop comes with take home lesson sheets.

Workshops are $30 each or all three for $60
