THIS YEARS EVENT IS OVER AND IT WAS GREAT. WE PLAN TO HAVE IT AGAIN IN MARCH 2025
The Tampa Bay Ukulele Society (TBUS), a non profit 501(c)3 Charitable Organization, will be holding its 7th Annual Ukulele Day Festival on Saturday & Sunday March 23-24th, 2024 in Downtown Dunedin. Each of our previous events have drawn over a thousand attendees and received widespread media attention.
On Saturday there will be 7 workshops at The Scottish Hall during the day to help ukulele players improve their skills, music by various local ukulele talent at merchant locations during the day, free beginner learn how to play classes at Dunedin Library and a concert at The Scottish Hall.
On Sunday at Pioneer Park there is live music performances by Ray Cygrymus and local ukulele performers, a strum and stroll through town, play-along sessions, ukuleles, t-shirts, food and othermerchandise for sale, arts and crafts for kids. Everyone is encouraged to bring a chair and their ukuleles to play.
Net proceeds from this event help fund our education, entertainment and community service projects .
This years featured artist is Ray Cygrymus. Ray will teaching be teaching workshops Saturday and and performing at Pioneer Park on Sunday
Ray has taught elementary school music for over thirty years, most recently specializing in ukulele instruction in the classroom. He has lived in the Pittsburgh area his entire life, and attended Duquesne University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, with an emphasis on voice. Ray has performed in many musicals and plays with theaters throughout the Pittsburgh area and has fronted many rock bands where he was the lead singer and played various instruments.
Over this past year, Ray was honored to be a featured performer and workshop instructor at TBUG and a performer at the Brown County Ukulele Festival.
Ray’s goal is to share his knowledge and experience to influence other ukulele players to look at their instrument in a different way by gaining knowledge of different techniques, expanding new skill sets, and effectively using sound effects. Ray hopes to continue to grow, entertain, inspire, and educate the world on the beauty and diversity of this spectacular little instrument that brings people together in such a big way! If you can play and strum the basic ukulele chords and want to get better these are the workshops you should attend
10am “Chord Melody not just for instrumentals”
In this workshop we will learn some quick and easy tips on how to make our song introductions more exciting by incorporating some of the same techniques used in instrumental, chord melody arrangements. A number of intros to popular songs will be taught.
11:00am “You Can Solo Too”
In this workshop, we will break down some of the fears with improvisation by learning some simple solo patterns and riffs. We will put together what we’ve learned at the end of class to have a super fun jam session.
12 Noon “Songwriting”
Guest speaker Norine Mungo shares her tips and tricks on songwriting techniques
1:00pm “Using OnSong”
Guest speaker Candy Otte does a OnSong workshop Demo and Q&A to help players learn how to use this software application on their phones or tablets
2pm “Vocal workshop for singing players”
In this workshop Ray & Norine will explore some proper singing techniques and exercises to help improve our singing performance.
3:00pm“Getting Spicy with Embellishments “
In this workshop, we will explore some great techniques to make our playing more dynamic. Chord suspensions, double stops, palm muting and some different strum patterns
4:00pm “The tasteful use of effect pedals to enhance your ukulele sound”
In this workshop , we will learn about common effect pedals, the best ones for ukulele , how they work, and how to properly use them. The end of the class will include an open mic where the students can play a song of their choice while experimenting with various effect pedals to tastefully enhance the song. (bring a uke with pickup)
6:00pm Concert. We end the day with live performances at the Scottish Hall by Ray Cygrymus, Tom Hood & The Tropical Sons, Renee & The Rollers and other artists

FREE BEGINNER LESSONS AT DUNEDIN LIBRARY
Don't know how to play but want to learn. Come to our Introduction to Ukulele class. It free and we will have ukulele you can borrow to play during our lessons. Ages 7 and up can attend and it's Free. Learn about different sizes, how to tune, hold, strum and play chords. We will have you playing songs!!!

This years featured artist is Ray Cygrymus. Ray will teaching be teaching workshops Saturday and and performing at Pioneer Park on Sunday
Ray has taught elementary school music for over thirty years, most recently specializing in ukulele instruction in the classroom.
He has lived in the Pittsburgh area his entire life, and attended Duquesne University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, with an emphasis on voice.
Ray has performed in many musicals and plays with theaters throughout the Pittsburgh area and has fronted many rock bands where he was the lead singer, playing various instruments.
Over the past two years, Ray was honored to be a featured performer and workshop instructor at TBUG and a performer at various festivals including the Brown County Ukulele Festival and the upcoming The Memphis Uke-N-Roll Jamboree in April.
Ray has a huge portfolio of videos on YouTube and many Facebook UKE groups.
Ray’s goal is to share his knowledge and experience to influence other ukulele players to look at their instrument in a different way by gaining knowledge of different techniques, expanding new skill sets, and effectively using sound effects.
